Which Songs Has Metallica Played at Sphere So Far?

Only the first 2 nights have full lists we can confirm. We couldn't find complete lists for the other shows.

Opening Night: October 1

The band played 16 songs on night one. They were the first metal band to play the venue.

Two songs were big comebacks. "...And Justice for All" returned for the first time since August 2014.

"Now That We're Dead" hadn't been played since September 2021. The band also dedicated "The Call of Ktulu" to late bassist Cliff Burton, almost exactly 40 years after his death.

Night Two: October 3

The band played an entirely different set. It opened with "Blackened" and closed with "Enter Sandman."

"Devil's Dance" also showed up, the first time since 2008. Impericon's list adds "Fuel," "Leper Messiah," "The Unforgiven," "Orion," "72 Seasons" and "Hardwired."

A Partial Look at October 22

JamBase has a partial list for October 22. It opens with "It's a Long Way to the Top" and "The Ecstasy of Gold."

It then lists "Battery," "Creeping Death," "Now That We're Dead," "Sad but True" and "Master of Puppets." The list looks incomplete, but it shows some songs from night one came back.

Metallica's No Repeat Weekend Rule, Explained

The residency uses a "No Repeat Weekend" format. The two shows of each weekend have completely different setlists.

The original run was 8 shows: October 1, 3, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31. Tonight and October 31 look like a pair, so they should not match.

Six more shows were added: October 8 and 10, November 5 and 7, and January 28 and 30, 2027. The Metallica Sphere residency is now reported at 24 shows, running into 2027 and ending around March 13.

Metallica Sphere Setlist Predictions for Tonight

No setlist has been released yet. These are just guesses.

Likely: A few fan favorites. The October 22 partial list shows songs can return after a weekend, so we'd bet on at least one of "Battery," "Creeping Death" or "Master of Puppets."

Could surprise: "One," "Fade to Black" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls." None of them are in the two confirmed lists above.

We also guess on 1 or 2 deep cuts. Night one and night two each had a song the band hadn't played in years.

Lars Ulrich called the venue "intimidating". He said playing it pushes the band outside environments they control.
