When Did "Lies" Come Out?
"Lies" arrived with the full EP on Friday, October 16.
It was recorded at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. Bryan, Jamie McLaughlin, and Eddie Spear produced it.
What Do the Lyrics to "Lies" Mean?
Neither Bryan nor Del Rey has officially explained the song. Everything below is our read, not something either of them has confirmed.
UPI describes the theme as being willing to hear "sweet little lies" from someone you're into, even though you know they aren't true.
Our take: it's a song about choosing comfort over the truth. Having two voices share the song could add to that, since both sides seem to be in on it.
How Did Zach Bryan and Lana Del Rey End Up on a Song?
In September, Del Rey posted on Instagram with Bryan. Her caption read: "Whale, we finally got our song done. And that's no lie."
Fans linked that post, and a whale-themed teaser, to "Lies." But no source confirms "Lies" is the song she meant. This could also be pointing to Lana's upcoming country-leaning album called 'Stove'.
What is confirmed: the song is out, and it's on Bryan's EP with Del Rey listed as a featured artist.
What Is on Zach Bryan's New EP?
Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs has 8 tracks. Here's the full tracklist:
- "Lodi When"
- "Robot Killed The Working Man"
- "Lies" (ft. Lana Del Rey)
- "Dog Days"
- "Walk Backwards"
- "Plainsman" (ft. Turnpike Troubadours)
- "Is The Blue Tangled In You?"
- "You'll Get By"
Del Rey isn't the only guest. Turnpike Troubadours appear on "Plainsman."
Why Does the Bryan and Del Rey Duet Matter?
It puts two very different fan bases on one song. Del Rey's upcoming country-leaning album is reportedly titled Stove, with no release date yet. "Lies" may give a first taste of that new country direction.
(More: another big star duet, Madonna and Charli XCX.)
(More: the country wave with Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen.)
